University Police Officers are committed to providing a professional and full service police department to the University. Officers complete their recruit training at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center located in Grand Island, Nebraska. Graduates then return to the department to enter into a three month Field Training Program. This program provides further training specific to campus law enforcement. Upon completion of this process officers are assigned to a patrol shift.
Each shift is as diverse as our student populous. Officers interact with students in academic buildings, residence halls, student unions and other areas on campus. Officers also patrol into the community surrounding campus to develop the relationship between Lincoln citizens and the University. Having the right technology available to perform the job is critical to department personnel. Our Communications Center is equipped with state-of-the-art audio visual technology to assist officers. Direct communication between first responders including area law enforcement agencies and the fire department provide better response time when aiding those in need. Our officers maintain strong presence on campus whether on foot, bicycle, segway or patrolling in a police vehicle.
