Property & Evidence

UNL Police Property/Evidence unit handles lost and found property and items collected by officers having evidentiary value. All incoming items are stored in a manner to preserve the condition in which they arrive. Documentation is maintained for easy identification, crime lab analysis or any other investigative purpose, and proper "chain of custody" for judicial proceedings. In accordance with statute and departmental procedure, once the evidence is no longer of any value, all property is released to owners, sold at auction, or destroyed.
