Emergencies, disasters, accidents, injuries, and crimes can occur without warning at any time. Being physically and psychologically prepared to handle unexpected emergencies is an individual as well as an organizational responsibility.
The following link has been developed to assist in minimizing the negative affects from such events. Please become familiar with this site before an emergency occurs, become acquainted with the contents, and keep this page available on your computer for immediate reference.Once you are familiar with the information enclosed, you will be better prepared to protect yourself and your co-workers.

Education
The University Police Department has a full time officer dedicated to crime prevention awareness.
Officer Pembleton
Officer Aaron Pembleton is our Education and Personnel Officer. Part of his job duties are to present various topics to educate the public. He is available anytime to talk to your group or organization.
Topics that can be presented include (but are not limited to) Alcohol Awareness, Drug Awaerness, Theft Prevention, General Duties of the Police, Traffic Safety, Children's Safety, Personal Safety and Domestic Violence.
If you or your group is interested in having the University Police talk to you please contact Officer Pembleton at 472-2222 to set up an appointment. If possible please allow a one week advance notice to schedule your date and time!
Personal Safety
Whether on campus, in Lincoln or traveling, please be aware of these safety considerations.
- Think ahead and plan your journey, avoiding unpopulated areas;
- Try to avoid walking alone at night, and stay on well lit main paths when possible. You should try to avoid shortcuts like alleyways;
- Stay alert: Be aware of what is going on around you;
- Let someone know where you are going, the route you plan to take, and when you expect to return;
- Consider investing in a mobile phone;
- Try to avoid wearing headphones, your ability to hear traffic, strangers, and potential trouble can be restricted;
- Report suspicious persons or activity immediately to UNLPD via telephone (472-2222) or emergency blue phone.

Theft
- Secure valuables like wallets and purses in a locked desk or drawer;
- Always lock the door to your room or office, even if you only plan to be gone for a short time;
- Look out for office or floor mates by reporting suspicious persons immediately to UNLPD.
- Do not leave laptops, bags or other accessories unattended in public areas
- Lock your vehicle and take valuables such as purses, stereo faceplates, and CD's with you to your room or office. At a minimum make sure these items are hidden out of sight;
- Invest in a quality bike lock and attach it through the spokes and around the frame;
