University of Nebraska–Lincoln

UNL Police Department

Committed to Excellence

Police Overview

University Police Officers are committed to providing a professional and full service police department to the University. Officers must complete training at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center (LINKwww. nletc.state.ne.us/) located in Grand Island, Nebraska. Graduates return to the department to enter into the Field Training Program. This program is three months in length and provides further training specific to campus law enforcement. Upon completion of this process officers are assigned to a patrol shift.

Each shift is as diverse as our student populous. Officers interact with students in academic buildings, residence halls, student unions and various labs on campus. Officers patrol into the surrounding campus community to develop the relationship between Lincoln citizens and the University.

Having the right technology available to perform the job is critical to department personnel. Our Communications Center is equipped with state-of-the-art audio visual technology to assist officers. Direct communication between first responders including area law enforcement agencies and the fire department provide for a more efficient response time when aiding those in need.

Our officers are committed to maintaining a strong presence on campus whether on foot, bicycle or patrolling in a police vehicle.
